| Beyond Vision creates unique plasma screen installations out of video stock footage as part of rebranding of Sydney office tower [2.Mar.2004] | | ![Beyond Vision creates unique plasma screen installations out of video stock footage as part of rebranding of Sydney office tower [2.Mar.2004]](images/news/africa_large.jpg) When Trinity Funds Management (Brisbane) approached Henri Ehrlich at Beyond Vision for content to run on its plasma screen at 275 George St., Sydney, it was a little like asking a kid for a tour of the local candy store.
Ehrlich began by supplying programmes Beyond Vision had produced from its stock footage on Australia and New Zealand – rambling, visually strong tone poems that work well as backgrounds in a public space, without requiring narration or other guideposts.
Next, Beyond Vision set out to develop a series of video environments that would complement the design of the building’s lobby and interact dynamically and subliminally with people entering the building or passing on George Street, from which the screen is visible.
The result is a series of nine 10-minute videos, all constructed from existing video stock footage, scored with a mix of ambient and recorded sounds. Each piece functions as a kind of window on the world that refers and relates in some way to the location and its dynamics. Some of the segments are more atmospheric (African tones, Earth seen from space) while others mimic or reflect the action in the street (Tokyo, Cairo, New York, urban abstract) and yet others function as Pandora’s boxes of curious subjects (animals lounging, underwater oddities).
The series will be running as of March 2004, interspersed among the building’s branding, news and other messages. Beyond Vision has retained rights to the segments and will be offering these and newly developed content for display in public spaces, in-flight and wherever good stock footage set to music can attract attention, entertain or just look pretty.

[20.Feb.2004]](images/news/duck3_large.jpg) New Zealand cameraman/photographer Dave Abbott is providing all of the stock footage used in the underwater sequence of Beyond Vision’s plasma screen series for 275 George Street, Sydney. Dave’s extensive stock footage collection of marine wildlife covers a wide range of colourful and exotic creatures well suited for the lively video aquarium Beyond Vision had in mind.
Dave is an experienced underwater cameraman and photographer with a degree in marine science, as well as being a qualified dive instructor and commercial skipper. Completing around 300 dives a year, he has dived and shot footage around New Zealand and the Indo-Pacific, as well as being involved in scientific diving and subtidal bio-surveys at New Zealand’s marine reserves.
Over the past few years he has captured video footage of marine life as diverse as seahorses and sunfish, filmed reef sharks in the tropics and Bronze whaler sharks in temperate waters, captured images from tiny mysiid shrimp swarming in their millions to huge Manta rays and even Orca.

| Beyond Vision shoots footage of very strong ants with renowned natural history filmmaker Jim Frazier [20.Feb.2004] | | ![Beyond Vision shoots footage of very strong ants with renowned natural history filmmaker Jim Frazier [20.Feb.2004]](images/news/ant2_large.jpg) Beyond Vision has once again shown its versatility in dealing with intriguing commercial assignments. Approached by Brisbane-based Blacklab International for footage of ants engaged in feats of strength for use in an Incitec Pivot TVC campaign, Beyond Vision produced the 35mm footage the old-fashioned way, shooting it. Luckily enough, Jim Frazier, who practically invented macro cinematography with the Frazier Panavision lens, was available for the shoot.
As it turned out, the red bull-ants used for the shoot were a fierce bunch and both Jim and cameraman Viv Scanu were able to witness firsthand not only their weight-lifting abilities but also their sting. These ants are often more than an inch long and shooting them close-up proved an adventure. Still, Jim was able to get a full range of footage of the ants lifting and carrying pre-scented props, as well as shooting green-screen footage matching client storyboard.
This footage request called for insect talent that had to be directed to match a storyboard, with specific actions as well as specific types of soil and props. In this case, getting the right footage meant creating it, so – being a full-service footage agency - that’s what we did.

| 21.May.2003 | | The Hillary Adventures (Michael Dillon Film Enterprises)
         - Beyond Everest
2003 is the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary's achievement as the first person to summit Mt. Everest. This documentary is an account of his life from his own perspective. It's the story of a 50-year relationship between the Sherpa people who inhabit the foothills of Nepal, and Sir Edmund and his old climbing partner, George Lowe. Together they have built and maintained 30 schools, two hospitals, many health clinics, bridges and several monasteries.
         - India - A Personal Encounter
         - From the Ocean to the Sky
         - A Journey to the Dawning of the Day
A newly introduced collection of the adventures and life of Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to summit Mt. Everest. We travel with Sir Edmund, his fellow risk takers and his family, as they take the paths less travelled through the wilds of India, Fiji and Nepal. This journey gives us a unique insight into the man whom the world has revered for 50 years, and who is still climbing the mountains and working in Nepal, at 80 years of age. Filmed over two decades by Michael Dillon, one of the world's foremost documentary Director/Cinematographers.
"Why do I want to keep on with my work in Nepal even when I am eighty years old? ... I think it's a feeling of friendship and a sense of responsibility. It all started with the building of a simple mountain school, which strangely gave me more satisfaction than a footprint on a mountaintop." - Sir Edmund Hillary, 1999.

| 21.May.2003 | | Everest - Sea to Summit (Michael Dillon Film Enterprises)
Not long ago, Tim Macartney-Snape, from the world's flattest continent, stood on the summit of Everest. This was his second ascent of Everest, without the use of bottled oxygen, a remarkable feat in itself. But far more remarkable, he had begun this climb of Everest at sea level, some five hundred miles from where he now stood. The people and cultures he found on his journey make this a warm human drama as well as a brilliant adventure.
